Common questions

How much is the broker commission on NEPSE?

It depends on the size of the trade: 0.36% (Up to Rs 50,000), 0.33% (Rs 50,001 to Rs 5 lakh), 0.31% (Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh), 0.27% (Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore), 0.24% (Above Rs 1 crore). One rate applies to the whole trade, with a minimum of Rs 10.

What is the capital gains tax on shares in Nepal?

For individuals it is 5% if you held the shares for 365 days or less, and 3.75% if you held them for more than 365 days. Companies and institutions pay 10%. These rates apply from 22 September 2026.

Do I pay tax if I sell at a loss?

No. Capital gains tax is only taken when you make a gain after all buying and selling charges. Right now a loss on one share cannot be set off against a gain on another.

What is the DP charge?

Rs 25 per company for each day you buy or sell, charged by your depository participant (DP) for moving shares in or out of your DEMAT account. It is the same however many shares you trade.

What is WACC and where do I find it?

WACC is your weighted average cost per share, including buying charges. MeroShare shows it under My Shares or My WACC. Tick the WACC box in the calculator to use it.

How is the price adjusted after a bonus or right share?

On the book closure date NEPSE adjusts the price: (market price + right issue price × right ratio) ÷ (1 + bonus ratio + right ratio). For a 10% bonus on a Rs 600 share that is 600 ÷ 1.1 = Rs 545.45. For a 1:1 right share at Rs 100 it is (600 + 100) ÷ 2 = Rs 350.

How do bonus and right shares change my WACC?

Bonus shares are added at Rs 100 each, their face value, and right shares at the price you paid for them (usually Rs 100). Your new WACC is your total cost divided by your new number of shares. The Bonus / Right tab works it out.

Is there tax on bonus shares?

Yes. Bonus shares are taxed like a dividend, 5% of the Rs 100 face value per share. The company usually takes it from the cash dividend that comes with the bonus.

Who takes the tax and charges?

Your broker takes the commission, SEBON fee, DP charge and capital gains tax from the selling amount, so the money you receive is already after tax.
