Tihar lights: are electric lights replacing Bhaktapur's clay diyo?

A Kathmandu Post visual story says the electric glow of Tihar is threatening Bhaktapur's clay-lamp tradition, as more people buy LED string lights instead of the potters' handmade diyo.

What does your family use for Tihar, clay diyo or LED lights? Are there any good places to buy real clay diyo from local potters?

Bhaktapur's Pottery Square (Kumale Tol, near Taumadhi) is the classic place to buy them straight from the potters. Thimi also has a long pottery tradition.

A mix works well: clay diyo for the Laxmi Puja doorway and the puja room, and LED lights for the balcony. That way the potters still get some business.
