Baccha ko janma darta: 35 din bhitra free? Ward ma k k chahincha?
Under the Birth, Death and Other Personal Events (Registration) Act, a birth should be registered **within 35 days**, and registration within 35 days is **free**. After that a fee or fine applies. The amount is set by the rules and the local government. For example, Republica reported Rs 700 per event in Bara.
**Where:** your ward office (municipality or rural municipality) where the family lives.
**What to bring:** the hospital birth paper (birth notification), the parents' citizenship copies, and the informant's ID. Some municipalities also let you start online, but you still need to verify the originals at the ward.

Do it early. You'll need the janma darta later for school admission, the passport and the child's national ID.
