My Forum Nepal journey: building a Nepali forum from idea to live site

Where I am starting from: I'm Rashim, founder of Nikosera Technologies. On 27 October 2026 I had a simple idea. Nepalis ask the same practical questions every day, about visas, foreign jobs, Lok Sewa, bikes, rent and NEPSE, but the answers sit in Facebook groups that Google cannot show. I wanted one modern forum, in Nepali and English, where a good answer helps the next person who searches.

My goal and target date: Get Forum Nepal properly indexed on Google, grow it with real members, and make it pay for itself through fair paid features.

Budget or cost so far: The forumnepal.com domain, Vercel Pro hosting (about US$20 a month) and the Supabase free tier. No office, no staff yet.

What I will post updates about: Every milestone, what worked, what broke, and what I learned. This thread is also the first one in the new Mero Journey category, so it doubles as a test.

27 October: from idea to live site in one day

I picked Next.js and Supabase on Vercel, and built it with Claude as my AI coding partner. By the end of the first day the forum had search, upvotes, best answers, profiles, notifications, photo uploads, a moderator panel, Google login, and privacy and terms pages.

I bought forumnepal.com the same day, designed the logo (a flag-shaped chat bubble in crimson and navy), verified Google Search Console and submitted the sitemap.

The hardest part of any new forum is that it starts empty. So I added starter threads with real, sourced facts across 11 categories, posted by clearly labeled Community team accounts. I also added paid highlights and member levels (Supporter, Pro, Elite) with eSewa and Khalti in test mode, and an automatic check that blocks nude photos.

28 to 29 October: security first

Before inviting people I ran a security audit three times and fixed everything it found: spam limits, auto-hiding reported posts, stricter payment checks and safer photo uploads. I also added Google Analytics, so I can see which pages people actually find.

Lesson: it is much cheaper to fix security before there are users than after.

30 to 31 October: money features and daily tools

This was the big build. Paid groups let a group admin charge for access, with a 20% platform share, a wallet and a Rs 1,000 minimum withdrawal. Member earnings share 30% of a paid member's fee with the people who helped them, by points for upvotes, replies and best answers. Every money movement goes into an audit log that nobody can edit.

I also added an automatic NEPSE update after each trading day, a nightly NPL update, and daily tool pages for gold price, forex rates, IPO results and a Nepali date converter.

Lesson: twice I released code before its database change was in place, and the site broke for a few minutes. Now the rule is database first, code after.

1 November: open groups, a ledger and journeys

Today any member can start a group, free or paid. I added a payment ledger that auditors can export, Bing Webmaster verification, a land area converter and this Mero Journey category, inspired by journey threads on big international forums.

Still to do: a proper email sender, live payments once the merchant accounts are ready, and most of all more real members.
